As states and local jurisdictions develop collaborative plans for mass violence and mass casualty events, it is critical that leaders understand the crucial role of crime victim compensation in preparation, response, and recovery and that officials include victim providers in the planning.
As a result of attending this session, participants will be able to:
- Describe the ICP TTA (Improving Community Preparedness Training and Technical Assistance) program, 16 Best Practices for establishing a Mass Violence Incident (MVI) plan, and how to engage with the National Mass Violence Center (NMVC) for technical assistance and support.
- Clarify the respective roles of emergency planning agencies and crime victim compensation programs in relation to mass violence preparation, response, recovery, and resilience
- Identify effective strategies to proactively collaborate with state and local officials so that crime victim compensation programs and their vital services and support for victims/survivors are included in state and local emergency plans.
- Describe and address any gaps in programs and services to be collaboratively addressed by emergency planning agencies and crime victim compensation programs.
