Complying with Federal Financial Grant Rules and Regulations: Foundational Information that Grant Managers Need to Know (Non-Member)

During this virtual training workshop, participants will gain an understanding of administrative requirements, cost principles and allowability rules—included in Title 2 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 200 (2 CFR 200) and the U.S. Department of Justice Grants Financial Guide—that apply to all recipients of federal funding. Participants will learn important accounting terminology and understand what it means to follow generally accepted accounting principles” to accurately record and manage federal awards. Additionally, participants will learn about common compliance findings and solutions to address them.  

 

Audience: State, local, tribal and non-profit grant managers and direct recipients and subrecipients of federal funding. 

 

Learning objectives: 

At the completion of this training, participants will: 

  • Recognize cost principles and federal financial requirements 
  • Define key accounting terms  
  • Apply GAAP Framework 
  • Understand basic internal control principles and methods to improve checks and balances in financial accounting 
  • Know where to locate resources to comply with Federal Financial Grant Rules and Regulations

Tanya Nichols serves as NCJA’s Grants Accounting and Human Resources Manager and brings 25 years of expertise in federal grant administration, compliance regulation and preand-post award management including budget development and administration. She has an advanced understanding of 2 CFR 200, organizational strategies, financial management, procurement and contracting. She has served as Business Administrator of the University of Maryland, Senior Sponsored Project/Financial Analyst for George Washington University, Senior Grant Analyst for the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and Grant Program Manager for Montgomery County Government. She holds a Master of Science in Management and Human Resources and Bachelor of Science in Management and Accounting from the University of Maryland. She has completed the U.S. Department of Justice, Department of Justice Grants Financial On-Line Training and is a member of the National Grants Management Association.
